The Simpson CCQ7.1-6SDS2.5 Column Cap w/SDS Screws - Gray Paint enhances the strength and stability of your construction projects. Crafted from durable heavy-gauge steel, this column cap is designed to provide column-to-beam connections in wood construction.
The seat of the column cap features additional surface area beyond each side of the column to allow added area of bearing to distribute the load from the beam and provide enhanced support for the connection.
This product is intended for use with 5 1/2x posts or columns but is also available in a wide range of other sizes and both nominal and rough-cut lumber. Included with this column cap are the necessary Simpson Strong-Drive SDS screws to provide fast installation and lower profile than standard bolts.

I’ve used these a few times for opening living areas in houses. They work great and do the job. Only things I didn’t like are that the inside welds create a smaller area for your standard 2x material so you end up ripping down boards and the other draw back is the first board you install needs to be fastened from the backside so doing remodels it take some extra work to make that work. All in all they are of superior quality and would recommend them to anyone
